The Advantage

Why Digital Printing?

Digital printing produces full-color or black-and-white output directly from a digital file - no plates, no lengthy setup, no minimum quantities. That makes it the fastest and most flexible way to produce printed materials for marketing, operations, and communications.

Where offset printing requires hours of plate-making and press setup before the first sheet runs, digital presses go from file to finished print in minutes. That speed advantage translates into shorter turnaround times, lower costs on short to mid-size runs, and the ability to make changes between print runs without additional setup charges.

Digital printing also enables variable data printing - the ability to personalize every single piece in a run. Each postcard can carry a different name, offer, image, or barcode. Each letter can reference the recipient's specific account details. This level of personalization is impossible with offset printing and is one of the primary reasons direct mail campaigns printed digitally outperform generic mailings by 30-50% on response rates.

MPA operates five digital production presses in our Lakeland, FL facility, giving us the capacity and redundancy to handle high-volume jobs without compromising on quality or deadlines. Whether you need 500 brochures or 50,000 postcards, our digital press fleet delivers consistent color, sharp detail, and on-time completion.

Equipment

Our Digital Press Fleet

Five production presses under one roof. Three for color, one for high-speed B&W, one for envelopes. Redundancy means your deadline is never at risk.

3x Xerox Iridesse

Our primary color production presses. Six-station architecture supports CMYK plus two specialty toners - metallic gold, metallic silver, clear gloss, or white. Print speeds up to 120 pages per minute on stocks up to 400 gsm.

Best for: Full-color postcards, brochures, booklets, catalogs, flyers, variable data

Xerox Nuvera

High-speed monochrome production press built for volume. Produces crisp black-and-white output at production speeds for letters, statements, manuals, and text-heavy documents. Inline finishing capabilities reduce handling time.

Best for: Letters, statements, manuals, forms, B&W booklets, variable data letters

Xerox Versant

Dedicated envelope and flat-stock press. Handles #10 envelopes, 6x9, 9x12, booklet envelopes, and custom sizes in full color or B&W. Consistent feed on difficult substrates that other presses struggle with.

Best for: Envelope printing, reply envelopes, outer envelopes, flat pieces

Why redundancy matters

Three identical Iridesse presses means if one press goes down for maintenance, your job moves to another press without delay. Most print shops operate a single production press - a breakdown means missed deadlines. At MPA, built-in redundancy is how we guarantee on-time delivery for time-sensitive print and mail campaigns.

Personalization at Scale

Variable Data Printing

Variable data printing (VDP) makes every piece in a print run unique. Each postcard, letter, brochure, or statement can carry different text, images, barcodes, QR codes, and offers - all printed at full production speed with no manual intervention.

This is the technology that powers personalized direct mail campaigns. Instead of sending the same generic postcard to 10,000 recipients, VDP lets you address each person by name, reference their neighborhood, and present an offer tailored to their demographics or purchase history.

MPA's data services team handles the data merge, address validation (NCOA/CASS), and file preparation so your variable data campaign prints cleanly the first time. We integrate directly with your CRM exports, customer databases, and mailing lists.

  • Logos, borders, accents, and full coverage areas
  • Available on any quantity - no minimum for metallic
  • Replaces traditional foil stamping at a fraction of the cost

Clear & White Toner

  • Clear gloss for spot UV-like effects
  • White toner for printing on dark or colored stocks
  • Raised texture and tactile effects with clear overprint

The Comparison

Digital Printing vs. Offset Printing

Both methods produce professional-quality output. The right choice depends on your quantity, timeline, and whether you need variable data. MPA operates both and will always recommend the most cost-effective option.

MPA's sweet spot

Most of our clients print 500 to 50,000 pieces per job - the range where digital printing delivers the best value. For higher volumes, we quote both methods and let you choose. See our commercial printing page for offset capabilities.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard turnaround is 2-3 business days from approved proof. Rush and same-day printing is available for time-sensitive projects. Large-volume jobs (50,000+ pieces) may require 3-5 business days. Jobs that include mailing services add 1-2 days for data processing, addressing, and postal preparation.

Variable data printing (VDP) allows every printed piece in a run to be unique. Each postcard, letter, or brochure can have a different name, address, offer, image, barcode, or QR code - all printed at full production speed. VDP is used for personalized direct mail, statements, fundraising appeals, and any campaign where customization improves response rates. Studies show personalized mail pieces generate 30-50% higher response rates than generic mailings.

Digital printing transfers toner directly to paper with no plates, making it ideal for short to mid-runs (1-50,000 pieces), variable data, and fast turnaround. Offset printing uses plates and is more cost-effective for large runs (50,000+ pieces) with consistent color. MPA operates both digital and offset presses, so we recommend the best method based on your quantity, timeline, and budget. See our commercial printing page for more on our offset capabilities.

We stock a wide range of paper including 80lb and 100lb gloss text, 80lb and 100lb gloss cover, 70lb and 80lb uncoated text, 14pt and 16pt cardstock, linen, and specialty stocks. We also print on synthetic stocks, labels, and clear materials. Custom paper orders are available with 2-3 day lead time. Not sure which stock to choose? We'll send you samples.

Yes. Our Xerox Iridesse production presses support metallic gold, metallic silver, clear gloss, and white toner as additional print stations. You can add metallic accents, spot gloss effects, or print on dark-colored stocks with white ink - all digitally, with no plates or additional passes required. These specialty effects are available on any quantity, from 1 piece to 50,000+. Request a sample kit to see the effects in person.

We accept press-ready PDF files (PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 preferred), Adobe InDesign packages, Illustrator files (.ai), and Photoshop files (.psd). All files should include 0.125" bleed, be set to CMYK color mode, and have fonts outlined or embedded. Our prepress team reviews every file before production and will contact you if adjustments are needed. See our postcard guide for detailed file setup tips.

Yes. Our in-house finishing capabilities include cutting, scoring, folding (letter, tri-fold, z-fold, gate fold), saddle-stitch binding, perfect binding, coil binding, drilling, perforating, padding, tabbing, shrink wrapping, and laminating. Having finishing in-house means faster turnaround and lower costs compared to outsourcing. For complex assembly jobs, see our fulfillment services.

Digital printing is most cost-effective for runs of 1 to 50,000 pieces. There are no plate charges or minimum quantities, so you can print exactly what you need. For runs above 50,000, offset printing may offer a lower per-piece cost. MPA operates both digital and offset equipment, and we will always recommend the most cost-effective method for your specific job. Contact us with your specs for a quote.
