Vinyl banner material is the workhorse of large format printing. Standard 13oz vinyl works for most indoor banner printing needs - retail sales, church events, trade show booths - anywhere wind is not a factor. For outdoor banner printing that needs to survive Florida sun and storms, 18oz heavy-duty vinyl is the move. It costs a bit more but lasts 3-5 years outdoors with UV-resistant inks that resist fading.
If you are hanging a banner on a fence, building exterior, or anywhere with consistent wind, mesh banner material is the right call. The 9oz mesh has tiny perforations that let wind pass through instead of catching like a sail. Construction companies and event organizers use mesh banners on chain-link fences because they stay put when standard vinyl would rip out its grommets.
For custom yard signs, 4mm corrugated plastic (coroplast) is the industry standard. It is lightweight, weatherproof, and affordable enough to order hundreds for a political campaign or real estate brokerage. Coroplast yard signs typically last 6-12 months outdoors. When you need permanent signage that lasts years - think real estate offices, construction sites, or storefront identification - aluminum composite panels are the upgrade. They resist dents, rust, and UV damage far longer than plastic.
Adhesive vinyl transforms glass and smooth surfaces into branded real estate. Window graphics can be printed on clear, white, or perforated vinyl depending on whether you want full opacity or a see-through effect from inside. Perforated window vinyl is popular for storefronts because it looks solid from the street but lets natural light through from the inside. For trade show table covers and fabric backdrops, dye-sublimated polyester produces vibrant colors that survive hundreds of machine washes without fading.
Transparent pricing on every product. No hidden fees, no quote-to-find-out games. These are real starting prices including standard finishing.

Choosing the right size depends on viewing distance and message length. The rule of thumb: one inch of letter height per 10 feet of viewing distance.
A custom banner that needs to be readable from across a parking lot at 100 feet needs at least 10-inch tall headline text. A storefront window decal viewed at 20 feet needs at least 2-inch text. A trade show banner viewed at 5 feet needs at least 1-inch text.
Cramming too much copy onto a banner is the most common design mistake. It makes the sign useless at its actual viewing distance.
| Viewing Distance | Minimum Letter Height | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 5 feet | 1 inch | Trade show booth, retractable stand close-up |
| 20 feet | 2 inches | Storefront window decal, A-frame board |
| 50 feet | 5 inches | Hanging banner inside event hall, outdoor church sign |
| 100 feet | 10 inches | Parking lot custom banner, outdoor building wrap |
| 200 feet | 20 inches | Highway-adjacent billboard or freestanding sign |
Standard banner sizes that map to wholesale roll widths and minimize waste: 2 by 4, 2 by 6, 3 by 6, 3 by 8, 4 by 8, 4 by 10, and 5 by 10 feet. Standard yard sign sizes are 24 by 18, 18 by 12, and 12 by 8 inches. Larger 36 by 24 inch coroplast signs are common for real estate riders and political district markers.
For retractable banner stands, the standard size is 33 inches wide by 80 inches tall with a base depth of 14 inches. That dimension fits virtually every trade show booth aisle and packs into a padded carry case the size of a small piece of luggage.
Hem and grommet placement matters for outdoor custom banners. The default is grommets at every corner plus every 24 inches along the top and bottom edges. For banners larger than 6 feet on any side or for high-wind locations, request grommets at every 18 inches plus reinforced webbing along all four edges. Skimping on grommets is the most common reason outdoor banners fail in the first storm.
Sign placement rules in Florida vary by municipality. Here is the general framework for Lakeland, Tampa, and Polk County before you order 500 yard signs.
Residential yard signs are allowed by state law but cities and HOAs often impose size, height, and quantity limits. Political signs are protected differently. Federal law and Florida statute 106.1437 protect political yard signs on private residential property during election cycles, though cities can still regulate placement on public right-of-way.
In Lakeland, the city code allows residential yard signs up to 6 square feet of total face area per residence (not per sign), with a maximum height of 4 feet from grade. Signs must be set back at least 10 feet from any street right-of-way unless granted a special permit. Commercial properties have separate sign code rules that depend on zoning and frontage. The Lakeland Building Inspection Division issues sign permits for commercial signage.
In Tampa and Hillsborough County, the rules differ slightly. Residential yard signs are generally limited to 6 square feet for non-commercial messages. Political signs during election season can be larger but must come down within 30 days after the election. Outdoor advertising signs (billboards) require separate FDOT permits if visible from interstate highways.
Polk, Hillsborough, Orange, and Pinellas counties all enforce similar setback requirements: typically 10 to 15 feet from any street right-of-way, with greater setbacks near intersections for sight-line safety. Real estate signs are exempt from most of these limits but must be removed within 7 days of property closing in most jurisdictions.
HOAs in Florida have separate authority granted under chapter 720 of the Florida Statutes and can impose much stricter rules on residential signage including total ban on commercial signs and limits on political signs to a 30-day window before an election. Before ordering custom banners or yard signs in bulk for a Lakeland city council campaign, check the city sign ordinance and the HOA covenants for any neighborhood you plan to canvass. The signs are cheap. The code violations and pulled-up signs are the expensive part.
Outdoor custom banners fail for three reasons: wind tears, ink fading, and hem failure. Picking the right material specification prevents all three.
Wind ratings on vinyl custom banners are not standardized the way roofing materials are, but commercial-grade 18oz vinyl with reinforced hems and grommets every 18 inches typically survives sustained 35 to 45 mph winds and gusts to 60 mph. That covers most Florida thunderstorms.
Hurricane-force winds (74 mph and higher) will damage almost any banner. The move there is to take banners down before the storm rather than spec a heavier material. Mesh vinyl is the right call for permanent fence-mounted banners because the wind passes through the perforations instead of loading the hem.
UV degradation is the other slow killer. Standard solvent inks on 13oz vinyl start to fade noticeably after 12 to 18 months of full sun exposure in Florida. UV-resistant latex or eco-solvent inks on 18oz vinyl maintain full color for 3 to 5 years. If a sign needs to look new at year 3, spend the extra dollar per square foot upfront. Reprints cost more than the upgrade.
Hem strength is the least-discussed and most important spec. A welded thermal hem (where the vinyl edge is folded over and heat-fused) is dramatically stronger than a sewn hem. Welded hems are standard at MPA on every custom banner we produce. Reinforced webbing, a separate band of woven polyester sewn into the hem, adds another order of magnitude of pull strength and is worth specifying on any banner larger than 4 by 8 feet or in any high-wind location.
For custom banners over 10 feet on any side, wind slits (small horizontal cuts at intervals along the banner face) reduce sail load and dramatically extend banner life. This is the standard practice for building wraps and large facade banners.
We print and pack large format orders from a single Lakeland, Florida production facility at 430 N Wabash Avenue.
Mail Processing Associates has been printing for Florida businesses for 35 years from one roof, with more than 700 lifetime business customers and a 5.0 stars across 100+ verified Google reviews rating. We are a Veteran-Owned Small Business and we ship custom banners and other large format orders to all 50 states. Local pickup is available during business hours. Free delivery within Polk County on orders over $200.
Most Lakeland and Tampa orders are produced and ready for pickup or local delivery in 2 to 3 business days from proof approval. Orlando, Sarasota, and St. Pete typically receive next-day or two-day ground shipping after production. Orders bound for Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and the Panhandle add an extra day. Nationwide ground shipping to anywhere in the continental United States adds 3 to 5 business days.
We serve a broad mix of Central Florida industries: real estate brokerages, restaurants, churches and ministries, political campaigns, construction companies, healthcare practices, schools, and city governments. Most of our recurring large format customers are small to mid-size businesses that need to handle signage, custom banners, AND direct mail or commercial printing from one print partner. Combining a signage order with a postcard or brochure mailing eliminates two vendor relationships and typically saves 5 to 10 percent on the combined invoice.
If you also need direct mail postcards, brochures, or a managed list, see our print and mail services, direct mail services, or EDDM saturation mailings. One vendor, one team, one invoice.
A trade show booth is not one sign. It is a coordinated kit of large format pieces that have to read as one brand from across a crowded exhibit hall. Ordering them as a set, from one print partner, is how you get color and messaging that actually match.
The anchor of most booths is a retractable banner stand: a 33 by 80 inch pull-up display that travels in a padded case the size of carry-on luggage and sets up in under a minute. Retractable stands start at $249 and are the highest-impact-per-dollar piece in any event kit because they are reusable for years. Around that anchor, a coordinated booth adds a branded table throw, a tabletop retractable or counter sign, a hanging or backdrop banner behind the table, and a stack of takeaway print (brochures, flyers, business cards) that carries the same visual identity.
The reason to order an entire booth kit from one shop rather than piece it together from multiple vendors is color consistency. A retractable stand from one printer, a table throw from a second, and a backdrop from a third will not match. Red shifts, blue drifts, and the booth reads as a patchwork instead of a brand. When MPA produces the whole kit on coordinated equipment, the same red is the same red on every piece. We print the retractable, the table throw, the backdrop banner, AND the takeaway brochures and business cards under one roof, so the booth is visually seamless and ships as a single coordinated order.
Lead time is the other reason to order a kit as a set. Trade show materials should be ordered at least two weeks before the event to allow for design, proofing, production, and shipping with a safety margin. Table throws and complex multi-piece booth packages run 5 to 7 business days in production alone. The single most common event-print emergency we field is a customer who needed a booth three days before a Tampa or Orlando convention. We can sometimes rush it, but the better plan is to lock the kit two weeks out.
"The booths that win attention are the ones where every piece matches, and you only get that when one team prints the whole kit. We have done this for 35 years from a single Lakeland facility serving all 50 states, so a customer can hand us a retractable stand, a table throw, a backdrop, and the takeaway brochures, and every red is the same red. Printed signage is part of why on-premise advertising remains a roughly $30 billion industry per the International Sign Association; a coordinated booth is just that principle scaled to a trade show floor."
Alec Boye, President, Mail Processing Associates
For recurring exhibitors, the economics favor a reusable core kit plus a refreshable graphic layer. The aluminum hardware on a retractable stand lasts for years; only the printed cartridge needs replacing when the message changes. We can reprint a replacement banner cartridge for an existing stand at a fraction of the cost of a new unit, which is why companies that work a regional trade show circuit treat the stand as a durable asset and budget only for the graphic refresh each season.
Ordering large format printing from MPA is a short, predictable process. Six steps take you from "I need a banner" to a finished piece in your hands, with a free proof gate so nothing prints until you approve it.
"The reason customers consolidate their signage and their direct mail with us is that one team, one invoice, and one point of accountability beats juggling three vendors. We have run that model for 35 years from a single Lakeland facility serving all 50 states, with more than 700 lifetime business customers. That consolidation is not just convenience: direct mail still earns a 29% median ROI for direct mail campaigns per the ANA Response Rate Report 2024, and a coordinated banner reinforces the same message on the street. When a real estate brokerage needs 200 yard signs AND a just-listed postcard mailing the same week, we handle both under one roof, on one timeline, with no finger-pointing when something runs late."
Alec Boye, President, Mail Processing Associates
If your large format order pairs with a mailing, whether that is a postcard campaign, a brochure mailing, or a managed list, see our print and mail services and direct mail services. Combining signage with a mail campaign in one order typically saves 5 to 10 percent on the combined invoice and eliminates a vendor relationship. One vendor, one team, one invoice.
Pairing a banner campaign with direct mail also stacks two of the strongest local-marketing channels. Direct mail still pulls a 9% average response rate for B2C house lists and a 5% average response rate for B2C prospect lists, with a 29% median ROI for direct mail campaigns, per the DMA and ANA Response Rate Reports 2024, while email marketing averages roughly 1%. The physical piece also gets read: 42% of recipients read or scan direct mail received, per the USPS Mail Moments Review 2024. Every list MPA mails runs through hygiene that hits approximately 94% match rate on NCOA processing and 98.5% deliverability after NCOA hygiene, so the postage spend lands in real mailboxes. The banner builds awareness on the street; the mailer drives the response. MPA produces both in-house and serves businesses in all 50 states from a single Lakeland facility.
Everything you need to know about large format printing.
Standard 13oz vinyl banners start at $3.99 per square foot, including hem and grommets every 24 inches. A common 3'x6' banner runs about $72. Heavy-duty 18oz outdoor vinyl starts at $5.99 per square foot for banners that need to withstand weather and UV exposure. Volume discounts kick in at 5+ banners. We also offer 9oz mesh vinyl at $4.99 per square foot for windy locations like fences and construction sites.
Most standard orders - vinyl banners, yard signs, posters, and vehicle magnets - are ready in 2-3 business days from proof approval. Rush production is available for next-day or same-day needs at an additional fee. Trade show displays, table throws, and complex multi-piece orders typically require 5-7 business days. We recommend ordering trade show materials at least 2 weeks before your event to allow time for shipping and any revisions.
We accept PDF, AI, EPS, PSD, and high-resolution JPG/PNG files. For best results, provide vector files (PDF or AI) at actual print size with at least 150 DPI resolution - 300 DPI is ideal for viewing distances under 3 feet. Large banners viewed from 10+ feet away can print well at 100-150 DPI. If your file is not print-ready, our design team can prepare it for $50 and up. Every order includes a free digital proof before we print.
Indoor banners use standard 13oz vinyl - smooth finish, vibrant colors, great for retail displays and event signage. They last 1-2 years in indoor conditions. Outdoor banners use 18oz heavy-duty vinyl with UV-resistant inks and reinforced hems with grommets every 24 inches. For locations with consistent wind - fences, building exteriors, construction sites - 9oz mesh vinyl lets air pass through instead of catching like a sail, preventing tears and grommet failure.
Yes. Our design team can create your artwork from scratch or modify existing files. Design fees start at $50 for simple layouts like yard signs and basic banners, and scale up for complex trade show graphics. We provide a free digital proof on every order before printing - you approve the exact layout, colors, and sizing before anything goes to press. Most design turnaround is 1-2 business days.
No minimums on most products. Order one vinyl banner or one hundred - same print quality either way. Volume pricing kicks in at 5+ units for yard signs, banners, and posters. Political campaigns and real estate brokerages regularly order 100-500+ custom yard signs at bulk rates. Contact us for volume pricing on large orders.
Yes. Coroplast yard signs and A-frame inserts are available double-sided at a modest upcharge. Vinyl banners can be printed double-sided using a block-out liner between layers so graphics do not bleed through - ideal for hanging banners visible from both directions. Retractable banner stands are single-sided only by design. Vehicle magnets can be printed on one side only.
We offer installation guidance and can recommend professional installers for window graphics and vehicle graphics in the Lakeland and Tampa areas. Most products - banners, yard signs, retractable stands, A-frames, and vehicle magnets - are designed for easy self-installation with no tools required. Window graphics and adhesive vinyl on large surfaces benefit from professional installation to avoid bubbles and alignment issues.
We print on 13oz and 18oz vinyl, 9oz mesh vinyl, adhesive vinyl, 4mm coroplast (corrugated plastic), foam board, aluminum composite (dibond), PVC/Sintra, and dye-sublimated polyester fabric. The right material depends on your use case - indoor vs outdoor, temporary vs permanent, rigid vs flexible. See our materials guide above for a full comparison with pricing and durability ratings for each substrate.
Yes. We ship throughout Florida and nationwide via UPS, FedEx, or freight depending on the order size. Local pickup is available at our Lakeland shop (430 N Wabash Ave) during business hours.
